I may be beating a dead horse here; but does anyone remember the charachter from Soulcalibur that was supposed to be Filipino? She carried a strange bladed tonfa and her moves were in pidgin Filipino (tama buhawi, laslas hangin, etc.).
Let me just rant about how I hated this charachter. This charachter was such an affront to Filipinos everywhere. Some people have talked about how good it is to finaly have a FMA charachter in fighting games. But that's what pissed me off so royally about this charachter; she wasn't, in any way, shape, or form, except in name, Filipino. God, the game developers couldn't be bothered to even research Filipino, or south east Asian fighting. Her weapons aren't even authentic! (And this was a fighing game). And if they can be so chevalier in their treatment of the fighting aspect (which was their bread and butter) how much worse was it to have her moves in pidgin Filipino? It's like the game developers said, "we can't be bothered to google anything and we'll just make up a martial art to represent the whole lot of you. how about that Filipino character in the game Def Jam Fight For New York? His name is Santos and uses Muay Thai. His special move is called Filipino Pride.

Oh yeah, that guy was ok. At least they didn't make it like he was practicing "Carabao Kungfu" or some kind of nonesense like that. He was just a Filipino guy who did Muay Thai. It was funny when we noticed that Philippine flag around his waist, we were arguing if he was mexican or Filipino till then.

What's funny on Soulcalibur II is that "TALIM" (as her name) the first time I've heard it, I thought it was kind of wierd pronunciation like "TAH-LIM" well in fact it is 'talim' as in 'blade' or "knife" or "sword" but tonfa is her weapons of choice. It must be marketing strategy because her dress is close to chinese warrior and an american indian (pocahontas) with all those dangling stuff on her hair. Though, she could be a generic character or some sort from an asian warrior.
p.s. I played it once and my kids beat me all the time if I play with them. -------------------- Sinyalan
