ehehe... honestly?  go for d hyundai- wla ka masyado sakit ulo coz as u sed: 5yrs warranty, brand new pa; compare dat to personally maintaining dat Benz.  plus, its "cuter", not hard to park coz of its compact size, fuel efficient pa mlamang.  mas quiet engine pa kesa sa benz...  sporty pa dating ng hyundai, lalo na if maroon yun kulay.

yun benz ksi, tlgang either car-aficionado ka na u cn really maintain its condition, or ur quite a moneyed person (in oder words: mayaman/may perang madaling iwaldas...)

Hmm... ang alam ko naman, yung mga Benz (before Daimler-Chrysler) were very durable, well-engineered vehicles. That's why one can see those Benz cars being used in even the most remote and harsh places like the deserts of the Middle East.

From what I know, it's the body parts that are the most expensive. For example, back in the 90's the headlight lens for the 70's and 80's Benz models I think cost around 7K. So it would be good to buy a Benz that doesn't need any body parts (like headlight lenses, tail light lenses, body trims, handles, badges, hood ornamnets, dashboard, etc) replaced.

The older german bodies were also made of very strong, thicker gauge steel. They won't rust easily even if there's no primer/paint on it. But, if you need body repair to be done on old Benz's, make sure the body shop uses the same thickness of steel as the original.

The engine parts, from what I know are around 1.5 times more expensive than Japanese parts (except Toyota) but last waaaay longer. So, you won't have to change engine parts for many, many years! From a maintenance standpoint, if you have the cash to make the initial investment of fixing-up the engine to good condition, all you'll need to spend on for maybe the next ten years is your basic tune-up/change oil.

It's true, the old diesels are pretty noisy. But that goes for all diesels back then. But, the old Benz diesels seem to be pretty quiet compared to their Japanese contemporaries of the time.

yep- torqui boy's got a point too... sakin lang whichever will fit his fancy: a new, supposedly 'hassle-free' car ok for the next 3-5yrs, or maintain a 'classic'- w/ its corresponding investments of course... depends sa individual's lifestyle and needs especially... eh "Owner"? yun ala-Joe Pring ang dating?  bka trip nya rin!!! presko- bukas na bukas!!!   laugh.gif

Actually, parang gusto ko rin ng owner-type jeep. All stainless steel - no rust worries forever! And it's such a simple vehicle that it's easy to fix and maintain. Plus, I don't think one would have to worry about parking it anywhere. Nobody would steal it and nobody can scratch it. Siguro dapat lang meron kang impregnable glove compartment or something bigger to keep valuables and stuff in while the vehicle is parked.

Interestingly, I once managed a drag racing event where one of the competitors raced using an owner-type jeep. Of course, it had a very powerful engine. It could hold its own against the other cars because its powerful engine had to move such a light body (no doors, no trunk, no double-walling, no glass except the windshield).

ehehehe, sbi na nga ba eh... pero korek ka- an "impregnable" glove compartment is really needed, lalo na if magpapark ka sa area ng timog or cubao... u never know eh.  npka-bilis ng mga kawatan dun!  mawalan k na nglang ng gulong eh- u'd wna kill somebody na!

I think the Old School Car Club here in Metro Manila has a member Toyopet in original blue like this:

Personally, kung Japanese, I'd like to restore the following:

Toyota Landcruiser 5-Door Long Body like this:

Toyota Crown like this:

Toyota Celica like this:

Toyota Corollas like these:

Toyota Corona like this 2-door:

Toyota Corona Liftback like this:

Toyota Starlet like this:

Mitsubishi Lancer like this:

Datsun 240Z like this:

Eh paano kung American naman? I think for the Philippines I'd go for restoring these Ford Escort MkI and MkII (MkII partially hidden):
